The problem with the question “Can you eat beef?” is a rather simple one. It basically boils down to the difference between the verbs can and do. Whereas can means the ability to perform something (Can you drive a car? Can you stay out past midnight?), the verb do in this context refers to a voluntary engagement, or choice, in a certain act. In other words, anyone can eat beef, but not everyone does.
The question should therefore be corrected as:
"Do you eat beef?"
這個問題相當簡單,基本上就是動詞「可以/能」和「做」的差別。
「can 可以/能」指執行某事的能力
(例如:你會不會開車?你能不能在外面過夜?);
「do 做」在這種情況下指的則是自願參與或選擇某事物。
換句話說,任何人都可以吃牛肉,
但並不是每個人都選擇要吃 [基於宗教信仰等因素]。
因此,這個問句應更正為:
"Do you eat beef?",助動詞用 do。
