這句話主要用來提醒人「東西不能只看外表」，
很多事物都是「金玉其外，敗絮其中」。
有時也可當成「馬後炮」，也就是，
當你發現某件物品並沒有原來想像地好時，
也可以使用這句話。
典故來自莎士比亞作品《威尼斯商人》。
