▲ had better + 原形動詞「最好⋯⋯」
For your own good, you’d better tell the police the truth.
為了你自己好，你最好跟警方說實話。

既然你咳嗽得那麼厲害，你最好還是不要抽菸了。

注意①
had better 常縮寫成 ’d better 的型式，許多人在還原後，常誤認為 would better，要小心避免。
☒ You would better put on a jacket, for it’s windy out there today.
☑ You had better put on a jacket, for it’s windy out there today.
你最好多穿件夾克，因為今天外頭風很大。
注意②
很多人也會誤以為 had better 的 had 為「完成式」，而後面動詞使用過去分詞。其實 had better 連用，是助動詞，所以後面用原形動詞。had better 的否定為 had better not，要避免寫出下面的句子：
☒ You hadn’t better do it, if you don’t want to get into any trouble.
☑ You had better not do it, if you don’t want to get into any trouble.
你最好不要做這件事情，如果你不想惹上任何麻煩。
▲ would rather + 原形動詞 + than + 原形動詞「寧可⋯⋯也不願⋯⋯」
I would rather cook for myself than eat out.
我寧可自己煮飯，也不願外出用餐。
I would rather be hungry than eat junk food.
我寧可肚子餓，也不願吃垃圾食物。
