expand 擴大
- The boundaries of what’s possible are expanding.
關於什麼是有可能的界限正在擴大。 - The type of jobs women can do now is expanding.

spread 擴散
- Her ideas are spreading. More people are accepting them.
她的觀念在傳播。有更多人正在接受它們。 - Acceptance of transgenderism is spreading.

expand 和spread 的文法和用法非常類似，但意思略有不同。別忘了它們都是動詞，所以在使用時必須想到它們的時態。

chance 機遇、冒險
- I’m not going to take any chances with my health.
我不想拿我的健康冒任何險。 - I’m going to take a chance and have the surgery. I know it’s risky.

opportunity 機會
- Opportunities for higher education are limited in her country.
在她的國家接受高等教育的機會有限。 - Opportunities for this kind of work are limited to men only, I’m afraid.
這類工作的機會恐怕是僅限於男性。
chance 和 opportunity 的文法和用法非常類似，但意思相當不同。
若想強調運氣、命運或風險時，要用 chance。它也能用在下列的慣用語中：take chances with s/th 意指拿某事冒險，或life chances 意指你的命運或運氣。
而若是把「機會」翻譯成英文，則應該要用 opportunity。例如 Women have fewer opportunities than men. 正確；Women have fewer chances than men. 則是錯的。
