焦點副詞為極特殊的副詞，它們主要用來凸顯句子中的某一個字（包括動詞、形容詞、副詞、名詞、代名詞）或某一個結構（如介系詞片語或從屬子句）。
常見的焦點副詞有：only、just、simply、merely、especially、particularly、even、mainly、chiefly、exactly 等。

- I only hope he can return safely.
我只希望他能夠安全地歸來。 - She is not just beautiful; she is very competent.
她不僅只是漂亮，她非常地能幹。 - He’s working especially hard today.
他今天特別賣力工作。 - Most people, particularly children, are afraid to go see a dentist.
大部分的人，尤其是小孩，都害怕去看牙醫。 - Even they, who are usually punctual, were late.
連通常都很準時的他們也遲到了。 - We arrived exactly at 9:00 a.m.
我們在早上九點整抵達。 - I didn’t go with them mainly because I didn’t feel very well.
我沒有跟他們一起去主要是因為我覺得身體不太舒服。
- 句中的 only 修飾其後的動詞 hope
- 句中的 just 修飾其後的形容詞 beautiful
- 句中的 especially 修飾其後的副詞 hard
